Win Smith Racing officially became a business in 1982 as a partnership between Win Smith and his parents Scott
and Flois, but it began long before that. As a kid growing up in Florida and Kentucky, Win Smith was a gearhead,
anything about cars, motorcycles and racing Win had an interest in. That interest was also fueled by the support of
his mom and dad. His mom took him to his first race when he was five. Growing up Win spent hours riding mini
bikes and motorcycles around open fields in Florida and the knobs of Kentucky. He had his first car at twelve and
two more before he had his drivers license. He raced his first drag race (legal one that is) at age sixteen.
Trips to places like Bristol, Darlington and Daytona fueled his desire for oval track racing. After earning his BS in
Industrial Technology at Eastern Kentucky University in 1982 his pursuit of oval racing began. Cars built by and
driven by Win or others have competed in Go-Karts, Street Stock, Dirt and Pavement Late Models, Spec Miata,
SCCA Improved Touring, USAC Silver Crown, Formula First and ARCA. Win Smith Racing has over 90 victories
and has set numerous track records. They have also built and fabricated racing components for all types of racing
in addition to testing racing components for other manufacturers. Kentucky Racing News a newspaper covering
Midwest racing was also published under the Win Smith Racing banner for 23 years before ceasing publication in
2005.
Win Smith Racing operates today still building cars and racing components. Win has a Masters degree in Industrial
Technology and uses this background to engineer better equipment. The interests are still diverse, from Go-Karts
to Formula Cars. While Flois and Scott have stepped back from the business they still cheer on their grandson.
Jared Smith, son of Win, is now the number one driver. At age twenty-two, Jared already has fourteen years in
racing. The majority of the 90 wins Win Smith Racing has secured over the years have come with Jared behind
the wheel. The University of Kentucky graduate's future looks bright and with it the future of Win Smith Racing
Enterprises.
